It's the start of another baseball season. Charlie Brown hopes that Lucy won't sign up for the team because, he and Linus think she is the worst player in the history of the game... and that her terrible playing in right field is the cause of most of their 900 losses in a row, without a single victory. But Lucy signs up anyway and during practice season continues to play miserably. The first game of the season is with Peppermint Patty's team. But in the first inning, pitcher Peppermint Patty hits Snoopy by mistake and Charlie Brown gets angry and takes his team home and forfeits the game. A few days later, Peppermint Patty calls Charlie Brown and wants to make a trade for Snoopy and she will give Charlie Brown 5 players in return. He is so desperate to win that he in fact, trades Snoopy causing all his friends to disbelieve that he would trade his own dog. But the deal falls through when none of Patty's players will play for Charlie Brown. Finally, Peppermint Patty wants to trade Marcie (her right fielder who hates baseball) to Charlie Brown and Charlie jumps at the chance to finally trade Lucy. What Marci does for Charlie Brown's team and what Lucy does for Patty's team shouldn't happen to anyone.
